Do a credit report on yourself to make sure the information is accurate. If you find errors take the necessary steps to correct them quickly.
Spend some time looking through the web, the ads in the local paper and the Real Estate Weekly. You’ll quickly get a sense of what’s selling.
Check out open houses. You'll tend to see more and more open houses as spring approaches. It’s a great way to get a better idea of things you’d find important in your next home. With many open houses staged these days, you might even pick up a few design tips along the way.
Watch some of those real estate shows on TV. There are many Canadian versions, and they often show tips on successful home buying experiences.
Try not to take on any additional debt. Don’t sign up for that new credit card that was sent in the mail. Choose not to buy any big ticket items. Hold off on the new plasma television until after you move in.
Contact a licensed real estate professional. Using a licensed agent can help you in a number of ways. Since you’ll be paying for those services in the purchase price of the home whether you use a real estate agent or not. Both the seller’s agent and the buyer’s agent are paid out of the transaction proceeds that are included in the marketing price of your home. Never buy a home without a buyer’s agent representing you. Real estate agents can provide you with information on homes that may interest you. They will help you complete all of the necessary forms when it comes time to making an offer, as well as offering advice when negotiating the price. A good agent should make every go very smoothly for you during this stressful time.
